Fans on social media are absolutely LIVid on the back of the bombshell announcement revealing the shocking merger agreement reached by the PGA Tour and the LIV Golf League.

The two entities, as well as DP World Tour, have been participants in a legal battle for over a year but, on Tuesday, disclosed a decision to merge, with the tours referring to the development as “a landmark agreement … on a global basis.”

“There’s been a lot of tension in our sport over the last couple years,” Jay Monahan, the PGA Tour commissioner, told CNBC. “What we’re talking about today is coming together to unify the game of golf, and to do so under one umbrella.

“… We’ve recognized that together, we can have a far greater impact on this game than we can working apart. … The game of golf is better for what we’ve done here today.”

The deal struck between the tours and Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) came absent the knowledge of many players and agents attached to both the PGA Tour and LIV, with some claiming to have found out via Twitter.

Safe to say, fans are hella pissed… You could check out some of the reactions right below:

This is still a developing story, with the futures of players like Brooks Koepka and Dustin Johnson uncertain as it’s yet to be determined how they’re to return to the PGA Tour after defecting to LIV.

Monahan has referred to the reinstatement of defectors as a “complicated endeavor and one that will be guided by established PGA Tour rules and regulations.”
