Bob Costas and NBC agreed to mutually part ways last month after 40 years at the network. Costas worked for NBC Sports since 1979 and his contract was set to run through 2021. Costas’ concerns regarding head trauma may have led to the end of his career with NBC, according to a report by ESPN.
Costas told ESPN, “The networks, all of them, dance to the NFL’s tune. It’s just kind of the way it goes. Everyone walk on eggshells around the NFL.”
The broadcaster was removed from NBC’s 2018 Super Bowl LII coverage team. Bob Costas, via ESPN NBC has responded to ESPN’s report. NBC, via statement. “I recall the phrase, ‘It’s a six-hour, day-long celebration football, and you’re not the right person to celebrate football.’”
NBC responded to the ESPN report in a statement, “We’re very disappointed that after 40 years with NBC, he has chose to mischaracterize and share these private interactions.”
