A shift in name is on the horizon not just for an NFL team but also for one in Major League Baseball.

As per a report by The New York Times, the Cleveland baseball team will be removing “Indians” from its name, a decision that has also been verified by other news sources.

The announcement about the name change may be made public as early as this week, according to the Times.

The decision has caused dissatisfaction among many, including former President Donald Trump.

Trump expressed his disapproval about the name change on Twitter over the weekend.

“Oh no! What is going on? This is not good news, even for “Indians”. Cancel culture at work!” tweeted the outgoing President of the United States on Sunday night.

Cleveland had previously removed its “Chief Wahoo” logo, a racially offensive depiction of a Native American figure, from its team uniforms following the 2018 season.

The Indians concluded the 2020 season with a record of 35-25, ending with a playoff defeat to the Yankees.
