The New York Mets acted swiftly in response to the controversy surrounding their general manager, Jared Porter.

Social media was buzzing on Monday as details emerged that Porter had sent unsolicited explicit texts and images, including a graphic photo of himself, to a female reporter back in 2016.

According to ESPN, Porter had exchanged 17 pictures with the reporter, who had recently moved to the U.S. to cover Major League Baseball. Initially denying sending any pictures of himself, Porter later dismissed the explicit images as “joke stock images.”

Mets owner Steve Cohen wasted no time in taking action and announced Porter’s termination the following day. In a statement, Cohen emphasized the importance of integrity and expressed zero tolerance for such behavior.

Porter, who had been hired just last month from the Diamondbacks, admitted his mistake and expressed regret for his actions in a conversation with team president Sandy Alderson. The Mets are conducting a thorough review of the situation to address this serious issue.

The incident involving Porter and the reporter reportedly occurred after a brief encounter in an elevator at Yankee Stadium in June 2016, marking their only interaction.
