The midway event of the skeleton and bobsled World Cup season, set for its fourth stop in Koenigssee, Germany, had to be called off due to heavy snowfall. Koenigssee is home to the first-ever artificially refrigerated sliding track globally, with the track marking its 50th Anniversary as an artificial course in 2019.

The scheduled Women’s and Men’s World Cup races on Friday were canceled by organizers who are yet to decide on a rescheduled date. Reports indicate continuous snowfall in Koenigssee over several days causing disruptions. This snowfall also caused problems during the prior weekend’s luge races at Koenigssee, with authorities measuring snow in meters rather than inches or feet near the track.

The upcoming World Cup Bobsled races originally planned for Saturday and Sunday at the same venue are still under review for potential rescheduling. Race officials are closely monitoring the weather conditions with anticipation of heavy snowfall over the weekend, expecting an additional 4-8 inches as the day progresses.

Elana Meyers Taylor from Douglasville, Georgia, and Lake Kwaza from Sycamore, Illinois are set to compete in the women’s bobsled race in the BMW sled. This duo has already secured two bronze medals in prior races at Altenberg and Winterberg, Germany.
