To prevent exhaustion, Mikaela Shiffrin is reducing her racing commitments after feeling fatigued from seven consecutive races. The reigning World Cup ski champion has opted out of the upcoming downhill competitions. Her head coach, Mike Day, mentioned that this decision was part of Shiffrin’s initial plan. Racing in speed events like downhill requires peak physical and mental condition, which can be compromised when fatigued.

The ski team’s head coach confirmed this adjustment to the press on Monday following a giant slalom event in Kronplatz on Tuesday. Shiffrin will focus on training before returning to Super-G races in Cortina on Sunday, skipping the downhill races scheduled for Friday and Saturday.

Day explained, “It may not be the best move for us, but we are prioritizing rest and additional Super-G training to gauge her return.” Despite Shiffrin’s expertise in technical skiing, she has shown promise in Super-G training, leading by 25 points over Norway’s Ragnhild Mowinckel. Day emphasized the importance of Super-G practice in Shiffrin’s overall preparation.

This adjustment aims to optimize training and performance for the upcoming World Championships. Shiffrin, a decorated multi-medalist, is expected to make a strong comeback, showcasing her talent and determination in pursuit of victory at Kronplatz and beyond, delighting her fans with exceptional performances.
