Vernon Davis, a former NFL tight end and brother of Vontae Davis, revealed that Vontae slipped outside of his sauna before his untimely death on April 1 at the age of 35.

“I was completely shocked by this,” Vernon shared with The Daily Mail regarding the sudden passing of the ex-Miami Dolphins cornerback. “I’m still trying to process it.”

Vernon Davis also mentioned that he does not suspect any involvement of drugs or similar substances in the incident.

“I’m relying on the investigators to find out more, but currently, we have no answers,” he informed The Daily Mail. “They are conducting tests, and we will have to wait for results.

“It might take up to a month or longer before we get any clarity.”

Vontae Davis’ ex-wife, Megan Harpe, stated to The Daily Mail that he “had CTE … there is definitely a story here.”

Davis had a career with the Miami Dolphins and Indianapolis Colts before his abrupt retirement during a game with the Buffalo Bills, marking the only known in-game retirement in NFL history.

“I didn’t feel right, I didn’t feel like myself,” Davis recounted to The Undefeated about his decision. “My intention wasn’t to let my teammates down … At that moment, my inner voice told me I didn’t belong on that field anymore.

“What’s surprising is that people immediately assumed there was something mentally wrong with me. But I feel fine. I’ve never felt this way before in my life.

“I rejected the league’s expectations of me, playing through injuries for my team with a warrior mindset, it all just vanished. And when it disappeared, I just wanted to walk away. So, I don’t care about others’ opinions. That was a personal experience and not meant for anyone else to comprehend. It was me abruptly shedding an identity I carried for so long.”

Davis was discovered deceased at his home in South Florida, with authorities stating that initial investigations did not indicate foul play.
