Cardale Jones, the former starting quarterback for the XFL’s DC Defenders, has garnered attention on social media due to his presence at a Vice President Pence rally in Columbus, Ohio.

Reports of Jones attending the rally initially surfaced on Twitter through Columbus Dispatch reporter Adam Cairns’ account:

Jones, a former quarterback for Ohio State University, played a pivotal role in Ohio State’s victory in the 2014 College Football Playoffs National Championship.

When questioned by a Columbus Dispatch reporter for a statement, Jones replied, “I don’t talk politics.”

He later took to Twitter to explain his presence at the rally:

“People will interpret things as they wish. I attended to show support for a friend’s business hosting a presidential event and the #FOP, an organization advocating accountability within law enforcement for misconduct,” Jones clarified. “Ultimately, I advocate for peace, justice, and equality for ALL. Politics is not my strong suit as I continue to educate myself before the elections.

“As I further EDUCATE myself on the candidates and policies, I will then make an informed decision on who I believe is the most suitable to lead our nation.
