Professional athletes from various sports leagues in the US took to social media after Tuesday’s presidential debate, encouraging their followers to participate in the upcoming November election.
During the debate, President Trump avoided condemning white supremacist groups and the violence associated with recent protests. Instead, he suggested that left-wing groups were responsible for the politically motivated violence.
In response, NBA star Stephen Curry criticized Trump’s statement in a tweet, “Stand back and stand by??????????? No further questions your honor! #vote.”
Many athletes, like LeBron James, emphasized the importance of voting with messages like, “PLEASE VOTE!!!!”
In contrast, some athletes focused on the quality of the debate between the candidates. Deion Sanders, a member of the NFL Hall of Fame and head coach at Jackson State, referred to the debate as a comedic spectacle with high levels of disrespect.
