Christian Pineda is passionate about video games, especially “Minecraft,” where he excels. At just 13 years old, he showcases his skills in a theater alongside his team from New York, ranging from 6-year-olds to teenagers. Despite his shyness at school, Christian takes on a leadership role within his esports team, strategizing and coordinating with his teammates during intense matches.

Unlike traditional sports, where you have pitchers and catchers, esports like the one Christian participates in focus on teamwork and communication, similar to a junior league game. Super League, founded in 2015, aims to fill the gap in youth esports by organizing national leagues for games like “Minecraft” for elementary and middle school students, and “League of Legends” and “Clash Royale” for older players. This progression allows children to develop their skills as they grow.

While there are no age restrictions for “League of Legends,” Super League Gaming attracts a large player base, with its “Minecraft” competitions even airing as a television show on Nickelodeon. The organization hopes to address the lack of structured esports opportunities for young gamers, particularly in the United States.
