Dustin Johnson Emerges as a Top Golfer after Winning WGC-Mexico Championship

Dustin Johnson showcased his prowess by securing his 20th victory at the WGC-Mexico Championship, dominating the competition with a five-stroke lead (-21 overall) over Rory McIlroy. Following closely were three players who tied for third, trailing McIlroy by five strokes. Sports Illustrated’s Daniel Rapaport discusses whether Johnson can be considered the best golfer in the world post-Tiger Woods era.

According to Rapaport, Johnson’s recent performance was one of the most dominant displays this year, stating, “He’s now achieved 20 wins before the age of 35…a feat only five players have accomplished in the last 50 years.”

Although Johnson’s exceptional talent is evident, Rapaport suggests that his lack of major titles may hinder him from claiming the title of the best player in the post-Tiger Woods era. While Johnson is on a trajectory towards the Hall of Fame, Rapaport believes that “a few more major wins are needed to solidify his legacy.”
