The head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars, Urban Meyer, has expressed regret for causing a disturbance following the circulation of a video showing him with a young woman on his lap at a bar.

The brief video, which gained traction on social media, depicts Meyer, aged 57, seated at a bar with the woman in close proximity dancing near him. Meyer, a married man with three children, acknowledged that he has apologized to his family, who were reportedly distressed by the incident.

In addition to his family, Meyer also extended apologies to the team and its owner Shad Khan. Convening a team meeting on Monday, Meyer pledged to take responsibility for his actions, a characteristic phrase of his that is prominently displayed within the Jaguars facility.

Speaking to the Guardian, Meyer shared, “I just apologised to the team and staff for being a distraction. Just stupid and so I explained everything that happened and owned it. Just stupid. Should not have myself in that kind of position.”

The video was recorded after Meyer remained in Ohio following the Jaguars’ game on Thursday. While dining at his own restaurant, Meyer attracted attention from another group, leading to the filming and a request for him to dance. Reflecting on the situation, Meyer admitted, “I should have left.”
