Conor McGregor’s time in the octagon was cut short on Saturday night due to a leg injury. UFC 264 came to an early finish with Dustin Poirier claiming victory over McGregor in their third encounter.

The fight was halted after the first round concluded, with McGregor down on the mat and unable to continue. Poirier landed a decisive blow in the final minute of the round, setting him up for a potential shot at the UFC lightweight championship.

Throughout the fight, Poirier showcased his dominance by defending against McGregor’s kicks and asserting control on the ground. Post-fight, Poirier speculated that McGregor sustained the leg injury while attempting a kick early in the match. UFC president Dana White confirmed that McGregor suffered a shin break near the ankle.

McGregor had to be stretchered out of the cage and, before being taken away, he vowed, “This is not the end!”

White announced that Poirier will now challenge current lightweight champion Charles Oliveira. He also mentioned plans to schedule a rematch between Poirier and McGregor once the latter has recovered. White emphasized the need for a proper conclusion to the fight, stating, “You can’t end a fight like that.”

The event was graced by the presence of former US President Donald Trump.
