John Keller, a quarterback for the Central Michigan Chippewas, is currently in critical condition in the hospital after he and a fellow student were shot at an off-campus party over the weekend.

The Isabella County Sheriff’s Office responded to a shooting incident at a nearby apartment building close to the Mount Pleasant campus around 1 am on Saturday. According to the police, a dispute erupted at the party, leading the shooter to get a gun from a vehicle parked outside and then return to shoot.

Both Keller and Tyler Bunting were hit by a single gunshot each, with Bunting’s condition reported as stable and Keller’s condition showing signs of improvement though still serious.

The shooter fled the scene and remains at large. Authorities are reviewing video footage and other evidence related to the shooting.

Dr. Bob Davies, President of Central Michigan University, stated, “I, along with many CMU staff, have personally contacted the students and their families to offer our support. Our thoughts and prayers are with them. Let us all hope for a speedy recovery for both individuals.”

To aid in covering Keller’s medical expenses, a GoFundMe page has been created.
