Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman may have helped police prevent a potential school shooting

Julian Edelman, New England Patriots wide receiver may have helped the police to prevent a school shooting in Michigan with some quick thinking after he received a message on his Instagram handle in the previous month.
While Edelman was on a trip to Texas in March, he spent some time with Danny Amendola, his former teammate.

While the two were exploring the place, Edelman received shared an image of the two players on his Instagram profile. After few days of posting the picture, Edelman received a disturbing message from one of his followers which read, “Dude, there is a kid in your comment section says he’s going to shoot up a school, I think you should alert the authority.”

With the recent shootings at Parkland fresh in his mind, Edelman knew that he had to do something and tell someone about it. So he called up his assistant Shannen Moen and had asked her to seek the comment so that they could identify whether the comment was fake or real. Moen finally tracked down the comment which read, “I’m going to shoot my school up watch the news.”

Moen later called the authorities in Boston which is where she was located. The police made an emergency records request and later were successful in determining that the IP address from where the comment came was based in Port Huron, Michigan. The Michigan police were contacted after which they headed to a home in Port Huron where the police located a 14-year-old boy who admitted that he made the threat.

However, it was not an empty threat as the authorities discovered two rifles from the boy’s home which belonged to his mom. The boy is currently in a juvenile detention center and has been charged with a felony crime for making a false report of a threat of terrorism.

Although Edelman helped the police to prevent the incident from happening, he is giving the credit for the save to the follower on Instagram who was the first one to alert him to the threat.
