Serena Williams is still chasing Margaret Court’s record of 24 grand slam titles but was forced to withdraw from the 2020 French Open just minutes before her match with Tsvetana Pironkova due to a knee injury sustained during the US Open semi-final.

Williams mentioned that the injury might sideline her for the remainder of the year. She expressed her disappointment, saying, “After two weeks of rest and minimal activity, I will need to start training again. Realistically, I may not be able to compete in another tournament this year. It’s crucial for me to focus on making a full recovery for the future.”

Approaching 40 years old, Williams hasn’t claimed a grand slam victory since the 2017 Australian Open. Despite the setback, Williams remains positive about her physical condition. She clarified, “I believe my body is resilient. This injury is not a long-standing issue but a recent development. If it had been my knee, it would have been more troubling. This setback is due to unfortunate timing and circumstances in New York.”
