Serena Williams, celebrating her 39th birthday, boasts a remarkable 25-year professional tennis career. Despite her 18 previous French Open appearances, she continues to uphold rigorous training and performance standards.
Williams hits the court at 9 am to practice, finishing her day early while competitors are just beginning. Her opening match against fellow American Kristie Ahn is scheduled for Sunday.
Following a defeat in the US Open semi-finals by Victoria Azarenka, where she won the first set 6-1 but lost the next two sets 3-6, 3-6, Williams is at Roland Garros in high spirits.
Reflecting on the loss, Williams stated, “A semi-final is always great, but for me, it’s not enough. I always strive for more. I’m at a stage in my career where I refuse to settle. I can’t say I’m content because I’m not.”
In the meantime, her older sister Venus is set to face Slovakia’s Anna Schmiedlova, coming off a second-round defeat in the Istanbul Open.
