Hailey Davidson, a transgender golfer who nearly qualified for the U.S. Women’s Open earlier this year, has just achieved a significant milestone in her professional journey.
Davidson, who has transitioned from male to female, is on a mission to make history as she pursues a spot on the LPGA Tour.
This weekend marked an important moment for Davidson as she aimed to secure a place among the top 96 competitors at the LPGA Q-Series: Pre-Qualifying Stage held in Rancho Mirage, California.
She exceeded expectations by finishing tied for 42nd place, with an overall score of 284 after four rounds. On Sunday, she carded a one-under 71, according to ESPN.
The Pre-Qualifying Stage took place at Mission Hills Country Club and Indian Wells Golf Club in Rancho Mirage, California.
The LPGA has established an inclusion policy for transgender athletes who have undergone surgery after male puberty.
In fact, the LPGA Tour modified its previous requirement of being “female at birth” back in 2010. Now, it requests that athletes like Hailey Davidson provide a written statement of their gender identity, proof of gender reassignment surgery, and documentation showing at least one year of hormone therapy to maintain testosterone levels within a specified range.
This policy is intended to create “[transgender athletes’] opportunities for membership and participation in events, while ensuring fair competition for all members and participants.”
Looking ahead, Davidson will travel to Florida for a qualifying tournament at Plantation Golf and Country Club in October.
To move on to the final qualifying tournament set for December, she will need to perform exceptionally well.
