The New York Mets emerged victorious with a 4-3 win against the Atlanta Braves, but not without a disturbing incident.

During the game, Mets outfielder Kevin Pillar faced a challenging moment when he was struck in the face by a 95mph fastball. The impact sent Pillar tumbling to the ground, causing his nose to bleed profusely. Quickly attended to by team personnel, Pillar was assisted off the field with his face covered in towels. Mets manager, Luis Rojas, later confirmed that Pillar was taken to the hospital for a CT scan.

Speaking on Pillar’s resilience, Rojas commended his player’s courage, stating, “This guy is a warrior. He shows up every day with a strong work ethic. Despite the incident, he managed to stand up and leave the field. Witnessing that was truly uplifting.”

In a message to fans released the following day, Pillar expressed gratitude for the support received and updated on his condition. The Mets disclosed that Pillar sustained multiple nasal fractures and would seek further medical attention from a facial specialist. “Thanks to everyone for the concern! It was a scary moment, but I’m doing okay!” Pillar assured his well-wishers.

The accident affected both teams, leading to a somber atmosphere on the field. Visibly disturbed, the Braves’ Webb was removed from the game. The grounds crew swiftly addressed the aftermath, including removing any signs of blood in the batters’ box.
