Regarded as one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history, Tom Brady has agreed to continue playing for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. According to ESPN, Brady will stay with the team as they aim to defend their Super Bowl championship in the upcoming 2022 season.
The new contract is said to provide the Buccaneers with $19 million in salary cap relief and includes the elimination of a one-year extension. Brady himself shared on Twitter: “In pursuit of 8…LFG @Buccaneers we’re keeping the band together.”
At the age of 43, Brady achieved six Super Bowl victories with his former team, the New England Patriots, prior to his departure from the team in 2019. After joining the Buccaneers on a two-year, $50 million deal, he led the team to secure their second Super Bowl triumph. Their 31-9 win against the Kansas City Chiefs further solidified Brady’s record with seven Super Bowl titles.
“I feel like I’ll be in a much better place mentally,” mentioned Brady before this year’s Super Bowl. “I’m going to train a lot better this year. Physically, next year I’ll be in a better place.”
On the same day that Brady’s extension was announced, it was revealed that Cam Newton had also re-signed with the New England Patriots. Newton, who was brought in as Brady’s replacement, reportedly secured a contract worth nearly $14 million, as reported by the Boston Globe.
