The Dallas Cowboys have made it clear that Dak Prescott’s injury will not affect contract discussions, but that does not imply that an agreement is any closer.
Stephen Jones, the Cowboys’ vice president, addressed Prescott’s contract situation during his interview on 105.3 The Fan and indicated that the primary issue remains the same as before.
Jones stated, “Our issues in our negotiations with Dak have been that we’re wanting to be more committed, in terms of the (number of years). We’re not nervous to sign Dak. His makeup is all the right things. He’s a great leader. He’s a great player.”
The duration of the contract has been a key point of contention, with reports suggesting that the Cowboys sought a five-year deal while Prescott’s camp preferred a four-year commitment.
Jones expressed his confidence in Prescott, saying, “He’s our future. He’s special. If anyone can overcome anything, it will be Dak. It’s something our doctors feel like he’ll overcome, and he’ll come back better than ever.”
Prescott finished the previous season with impressive stats, amassing 4,902 passing yards, ranking second in the NFL, along with 30 touchdown passes and 11 interceptions.
Following his injury in 2020, Prescott managed to accumulate 1,856 passing yards in five games. The team struggled without him, losing six of seven games and dropping to the bottom of the NFC East standings.
