Trevor Lawrence and his longtime girlfriend Marissa Mowry recently got engaged, a moment that should have been filled with happiness for the couple. However, instead of celebrating, some people on social media chose to make jokes at the expense of the Clemson Tigers quarterback.
One local news anchor, Matt Trent from WBRZ in Baton Rouge, took it even further by mocking Lawrence on live television. He stated that LSU quarterback Joe Burrow was unavailable for comment on the engagement but added that “daddy’s proud of you” to Lawrence.
Unwilling to let this slide, Lawrence took to Twitter to respond, criticizing the news anchor for his actions in a tweet that has since been deleted.
In his rebuttal, Lawrence stated, “Hahaha I love when grown men try this hard to talk about me.”
Despite the unnecessary comments, Lawrence’s football accolades speak for themselves. He has already secured a national championship and is widely regarded as one of the top players in the upcoming NFL Draft class.
