In a high-profile match-up, American boxing star Floyd Mayweather agreed to a guaranteed $100 million deal to go head-to-head with Conor McGregor. However, the actual earnings for the fighters exceeded the guaranteed amount, with Mayweather raking in $275 million and McGregor taking home around $85 million.
Mayweather expressed his keen interest in the hefty payday, stating in an interview with TMZ Sports, “Man if they pay I’m there to play. And if they’re paying cash Conor, I’ll whip your ass… again. I do what I do everywhere, I pick up money I get paid to tell my story.”
Following his victory over McGregor in 2017, securing a flawless 50-0 record, Mayweather announced his retirement from boxing. Nonetheless, in November, the 43-year-old revealed his plans to come out of retirement in 2020, hinting at a collaboration with UFC head Dana White for a special event.
While Mayweather has teased the possibility of stepping into the Octagon in social media posts, it is widely believed that he will stick to boxing. Reflecting on his fight against McGregor, Mayweather shared, “I took it serious, but I wanted to have some fun in the fight and I wanted to entertain the people. You have to give the people a show, so I gave the people a show.”
