In a preliminary hearing held on Thursday, Elissa Ennis the former girlfriend of 49ers Reuben Foster has testified that she lied to the police officials by saying Foster attacked her and that she was subjected to domestic violence. She told in the hearing that she lied a lot about a domestic violence incident.
Ennis testified by going against the advice given by her lawyer Stephanie Rickard and said in the hearing that she lied because she wanted to ruin Foster’s career and wanted him to sue for a sum of money after Foster ended their relationship on February 11. She also testified of accusing her ex-boyfriend on domestic violence charges in Louisiana in the year 2011 after he had also attempted to end the relationship with her.
Ennis confessed that she felt, to tell the truth as she had to do the right thing, even if that meant her to admit her previous lies to the authorities which includes stealing $8000 in cash and two of Foster’s Rolex watches post their breakup. Ennis testified, “I was pissed, and I wanted to end him.”
It took Ennis nearly two hours on the stand to confess. It is reported that she broke down in tears several times when she recounted the breakup between Foster and her, which according to her led her to do attempt to ‘ruin’ the playing career of Foster and to execute what she termed as a “money scheme.”
After Ennis broke down in tears again, the Judge for the hearing, Nona L. Klippen gave a ten-minute break to Ennis for her to compose herself.
Ennis apologized for the court. “I’m sorry. I am. I apologize to everybody,” she said.
If Foster gets convicted of all the charges, he could face a prison sentence of up to 11 years. Forster still is the member of the 49ers even though the team has not allowed him to be a part of the offseason program while the case was going on.
