The Washington Redskins and Kansas City Chiefs have done a blockbuster trade of 2018 season. As per the report, the quarterback Alex Smith has been acquired by the Redskins to parts way with Kirk Cousins. This trade news first informed by the Kansas City Star but the report says that it can be the only official after the start of the league. It will begin on 31st March. Sources also added that, in this trade, the Reskins would give Kansas a player. Smith will soon sign a bond paper with for his four-year extension. He will get around $23.5 million per year and also will get $71 million money as a guarantee. Before acquired by the Redskins, around six other teams also interested in getting Smith on their team.
This move gives Washington a cheaper alternative to Cousins. Cousin is a pending free agent. On Tuesday, during an Interview, he said that he would wait to see if the Redskins marked him or not by 9th March. On the other hand, the third franchise tag will be costed around $34.5 million, and the transition tag will cost around 38.8 million. If this happens then, Cousins can hit free agency. It was a great fear for Washington was that if they would pay above $25 million per year to Cousins would have created major problem while taking other moves.
For 2018, the Redskins have around $52 million to spend on the acquiring players. For now, it is still uncertain how much Smith will cost for the Redskins, but it will be surely cheaper for Washington, better than choosing Cousins.
Talking about the career of Smith, he has been spent the first eight seasons of his career with the 49ers. In 2012 he had given his best performance in NFL matches and was benched in favour of Colin Kaepernick late in the year. On that season, the 49ers played the Super Bowl by taking Smith as a backup for the team.
