The Redskins concluded the 2019 season with a 3-13 record, landing them at the bottom of the NFC East. Since 2015, the team has not made it to the playoffs and has not secured a playoff victory since 2005.

During his nine-season tenure as the Panthers head coach, Rivera achieved a regular season record of 76-63-1 and a 3-4 record in the playoffs across four postseason appearances. Rivera’s Panthers had a 5-7 record this season before his departure from the team.

This opportunity with the Washington Redskins marks Rivera’s second head coaching role in the NFL.
