Fans on social media have expressed a range of opinions regarding the recent news concerning Texas quarterback Arch Manning.
This season, Manning had the chance to play as the Longhorns’ starting quarterback, stepping in for Quinn Ewers due to an oblique injury sustained against UTSA. He went on to start the subsequent two games. However, it has now been confirmed that Ewers will reclaim the starting role as he has fully recovered.
According to an update from ESPN’s Jordan Reid, head coach Steve Sarkisian has officially announced the change. Ewers will lead the team as they prepare for their upcoming match against Oklahoma.
“Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian officially announced that QB Quinn Ewers will start vs. Oklahoma. He missed the team’s previous two games after suffering an oblique strain vs. UTSA,” Reid tweeted on Thursday.
“Oklahoma this week and a showdown next Saturday night against Georgia. Two resume games upcoming for Ewers with major draft implications. Massive opportunities for him.”
Arch Manning’s Benchings Were Anticipated
This news likely did not catch Manning off guard, nor should it have been a shock to fans. It was always anticipated that Ewers would return to the starting role upon recovery, regardless of Manning’s commendable performances.
“👎🏿👎🏿👎🏿👎🏿 let my Guy Arch cook lol,” one fan commented.
“100% the right call. This is Quinn’s team and he’s best suited to lead the Longhorns. Having Arch as a backup for ‘24 is as good of a QB insurance policy as anyone has in the country,” another replied.
“Best QB in the country is back Gametime,” one user wrote.
“Boooooo,” echoed another.
Another comment read: “Why go first round he injury prone.”
While some fans seemed to favor Manning continuing as Texas QB1, there will be ample opportunities for him to showcase his talents once Ewers departs in 2025, paving the way for Manning to take over as the definitive starter.
