UConn’s head coach Dan Hurley has openly refuted the idea that his potential move to the Los Angeles Lakers was a strategic act to strengthen his position at UConn. He confirmed that during this period, he engaged in text messaging with LeBron James.
“The notion that my interest in the Lakers job was just a ploy for more leverage at UConn is simply ridiculous,” Hurley stated during an interview on The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz. “I have no need for leverage. My track record here speaks for itself with consecutive national titles. It wasn’t about leverage at all.
“My contract with UConn has been ready to sign for a few weeks now. The compensation part has been settled for quite some time. There are aspects such as name, image, and likeness (NIL) rights, my staff’s pay, among other things that I want to address. But to say I orchestrated this to sweeten my deal at Uconn is simply unfounded and unimaginative,” Hurley explained.
