Jacare Souza defeated Chris Weidman in event

In a noteworthy performance at UFC 230 on Saturday, Ronaldo Jacare Souza showcased one of the most memorable moments of his career. Chris Weidman experienced a tough defeat in his home state as Souza claimed victory over him via TKO at 2:46 of the third round in their middleweight bout, a significant co-main event held at Madison Square Garden.

The fight was closely contested until the final moments when Souza landed a powerful right hand, knocking Weidman to the ground. Referee Dan Miragliotta did not intervene immediately, allowing Souza to throw a series of punches. Weidman attempted to hold onto Souza’s leg, prompting Miragliotta to stop the fight.

Following the match, Souza expressed admiration for Weidman, calling him a great guy and a legendary figure in the sport. He also expressed sympathy for Weidman, acknowledging the significance of the loss in his hometown, where he is well-regarded as one of the best. This victory marks Souza’s second consecutive knockout win at Madison Square Garden.

It was only two years ago that Souza suffered a flying knee knockout defeat against Yoel Romero at UFC 205. Despite an impressive 9-3 record in the Octagon, Souza has yet to compete for the UFC title. He took a break from fighting last year due to injury but is now making a strong comeback.
