In February, there were allegations circulating within the league suggesting that the Golden State Warriors were interested in trading for Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James prior to the previous season’s trade deadline. James and his representatives promptly dismissed these rumors, asserting his dedication to the Purple and Gold.
However, on Friday (Nov 6), ESPN’s Brian Windhorst disclosed that discussions are resurfacing this season regarding a trade that could potentially send the four-time champion to the Warriors.
“I’m very intrigued by all of this… I’d be dishonest if I said there (hasn’t) been some discussions in the league involving LeBron at some point this year, like… revisiting that. Because you recall at last year’s trade deadline, the Warriors reached out,” Windhorst noted.
The ESPN senior insider pointed out that if any serious negotiations were to take place, it would come at a considerable cost for both teams.
LeBron Affirms His Commitment to the Lakers
The speculation regarding LeBron James potentially joining the Warriors ignited after he and Warriors standout Stephen Curry collaborated briefly during last summer’s Olympic team. The evident chemistry they exhibited during the tournament prompted media conjecture about a future partnership in the NBA.
Windhorst further emphasized that James has consistently expressed his desire to remain a Laker.
“… So, I would just point out that there have been two occasions in the last 10 months when LeBron could have left the Lakers. Once was at the trade deadline last year when the Warriors reached out. The Lakers consulted LeBron, asking, ‘Do you genuinely want to be traded?’ He replied, ‘No.’ Last summer, he became a free agent and opted to re-sign with the Lakers.”
