Over a month after making history as the first father-son pairing to take the court together in an NBA game, LeBron James and his son Bronny continue to capture attention and make an impact throughout the league.
Jerseys from Bronny and LeBron’s Opening Night Fetch $102K
The jerseys worn by both players during their 110-103 win against the Minnesota Timberwolves on opening night recently sold for $102,000.
The No. 23 and No. 9 jerseys were auctioned off on Wednesday via Sotheby’s. However, the auction house noted that they could not confirm whether Bronny’s jersey originated from the October 22 game, providing the following disclaimer on their website:
“Sotheby’s attributes this Bronny jersey to the second half of the 2024-2025 Kia NBA Tip-Off game against the Minnesota Timberwolves. However, due to the absence of media showing Bronny without a warm-up jacket, it cannot be photomatched. The 2024-2025 Kia NBA Tip-Off marked Bronny’s ‘Rookie Debut’ game. ‘First Game 2D Half 10/22’ is handwritten on the jock tag.”
The enthusiasm for Bronny James isn’t limited to those ready to invest six figures for a jersey. According to Marca.com, the rookie’s No. 9 has already sold 500,000 units to date, surpassing LeBron James’ previous record for rookie jersey sales.
Lakers Struggle Continues
Since that exhilarating start, Los Angeles has had little to celebrate, losing six of their last eight games, with their latest setback being a 134-93 drubbing by Miami on Wednesday.
Head coach JJ Redick was quick to accept some responsibility for the team’s recent struggles, admitting he felt “embarrassed.”
“This was not a game where I felt we demonstrated the appropriate fight or professionalism,” Redick said candidly. “There needs to be some accountability on the court.”
Star forward LeBron James stepped up to defend his head coach, stating, “It’s not on the coaches. It’s definitely on us, for sure.”
“No amount of schemes or X’s and O’s are going to resolve that. If some players are unwilling to compete, then we have deeper issues to address. We need to sort this out.”
