The much-awaited trade of Aaron Rodgers from the Green Bay Packers to the New York Jets has finally concluded, according to reports that surfaced on Monday afternoon. After being with the Packers since he was drafted in 2008, Rodgers will be joining a new team, sporting a new shade of green in 2023. ESPN’s NFL insider Adam Schefter has also disclosed that the quarterback will switch jersey numbers.

Formerly donning No. 12 with the Packers, Schefter cited that Rodgers will revert to his college jersey number, which is No. 8, the digit he wore with the California Golden Bears. Despite getting approval from Hall of Fame quarterback, Joe Namath, Rodgers opted for a familiar number as he embarks on the next chapter of his career.

“Although Hall-of-Fame QB Joe Namath gave Aaron Rodgers his blessing to wear No. 12, the new Jets‘ QB is expected to wear No. 8 — the number he wore in college at Cal,” Schefter tweeted.

Moreover, Jets cornerback Sauce Gardner has been reported to post on social media, showing Rodgers donning a California No. 8 jersey, making it also his profile picture. After extensive negotiations, the two sides that had expressed frustration earlier reportedly returned to talk again, with the present agreement said to be mostly reasonable.
