After a physical altercation in the tunnel involving several Michigan State players attacking a Michigan football player, Jim Harbaugh described the event as “traumatic.” The Michigan football coach believes criminal charges will be brought against those involved.

Following Michigan’s 29-7 win over Michigan State, social media videos captured several Michigan State players aggressively assaulting Michigan player Ja’Den McBurrows. Additionally, footage showed a helmet being swung at Michigan defensive back Gemon Green.

“We are currently in the midst of a police investigation, the incident in the tunnel was appalling and disturbing to witness,” Harbaugh stated on Monday. “The videos circulating on social media as well as the ABC tunnel camera footage provide a clearer view of the events that transpired.”

MSU has suspended four players involved in the altercation indefinitely: Tank Brown, Khary Crump, Angelo Grose, and Zion Young. Harbaugh expressed concern for the well-being of both injured players.

Michigan State coach Mel Tucker mentioned that the school is collaborating with law enforcement, campus officials from Michigan State and Michigan, as well as the Big Ten Conference to investigate the situation. Michigan State President Samuel Stanley issued an apology for the “violent” incident.

“I am deeply saddened by this event and the inappropriate actions exhibited by members of our football team,” Stanley remarked. “On behalf of Michigan State University, I offer my sincere apologies to the University of Michigan and the student-athletes affected.”

This marks the second consecutive game at Michigan’s stadium that has seen a tunnel altercation between teams. Earlier this month, Penn State coach James Franklin called for policy changes after a verbal dispute between Michigan and Penn State players, which allegedly involved a player from Penn State hurling peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.
