As a result of his comments, numerous businesses have severed their relationships with him. Moreover, one team has decided to cease playing his music at their venues and stadiums.
The Texas A&M football team has traditionally taken the field to Kanye West’s song “Power,” but that tradition is now being discontinued.
Athletic director Ross Bjork stated on Thursday, via TexAgs.com, “We’ve reviewed that situation for the last couple of weeks… We’re pivoting away from that song.”
Moving forward, the team will enter the field to Childish Gambino’s “Bonfire.”
This change comes at a time when the Aggies are struggling, having lost three consecutive games and facing the risk of not qualifying for a bowl game. Head coach Jimbo Fisher has been under scrutiny throughout the season and recently took action against several players for a locker-room incident.
A shift in music is just one of several changes that may be necessary for the team.
This weekend, Texas A&M will host No. 15 Ole Miss at Kyle Field.
