A woman from Dallas tragically lost her life in a shocking incident that stemmed from a friendly basketball game. The young woman was fatally shot by a friend who couldn’t handle losing after she beat him in a pickup basketball match, as reported by her family.

The victim, Asia Womack, was shot and killed on Monday after playing basketball with the man at T.G. Terry Park close to her residence, according to Fox 4 News.

The mother of the deceased, Andrea Womack, expressed her dismay stating, “This was meant to be one of Asia’s friends. She had shared meals with this man, she had looked after him, and he betrayed her by taking her life in such a brutal manner.”

The family revealed that the fatal disagreement arose after Womack had won the basketball game against the man and there was some banter exchanged during the match. The assailant left the park with his children and brother only to return later and commit the tragic act.

Following multiple gunshot wounds, Asia was swiftly taken to a hospital but tragically, she was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Asia’s aunt, Juanita Smith, conveyed to NBC DFW the family’s struggle to comprehend the senselessness of the act and questioned, “Why would someone resort to murder over a basketball game?”

Her sister, Alia Womack, shared with the news station the profound impact of the loss stating, “It’s incredibly challenging as she was my only sister.”

Law enforcement officials have disclosed that the investigation into the homicide is ongoing and no suspects have been apprehended at this time.
