Former U.S. soccer sensation Hope Solo admitted guilt in a DWI case on Monday, following her arrest earlier this year in North Carolina. The 40-year-old was discovered unconscious behind the wheel of a vehicle at a local shopping center with her 2-year-old twins also present. Alongside the DWI charge, she faced allegations of child abuse and resisting an officer.

Reports from the Winston Salem-Journal stated that her lawyer, Chris Clifton, confirmed the dismissal of the latter charges. Solo expressed deep regret over the incident, labeling it as the most significant mistake of her life. She acknowledged underestimating the negative impact alcohol had on her life.

The Forsyth County district attorney’s office outlined the penalties for Solo, including a 30-day rehabilitation program, a suspended 24-month sentence, and an active 30-day sentence. Additionally, she was fined $2,500 and levied a $600 charge for lab tests.

Hope Solo, a prominent figure in U.S. women’s soccer, has a decorated career, boasting two Olympic gold medals and a FIFA World Cup win in 2015. Despite her athletic achievements, Solo has faced challenges, notably a 2014 arrest related to a domestic altercation involving her sister and nephew in Washington state. Charges from that incident were eventually dismissed in 2018.

In recognition of her sporting prowess, Solo was named the 2009 U.S. Soccer Female Athlete of the Year.
