Paris Saint-Germain has confirmed that Aminata Diallo has been arrested by police for her suspected involvement in a violent assault on teammate Kheira Hamraoui.

Diallo, a prominent midfielder, is accused of trying to eliminate competition by allegedly arranging for two masked individuals to pull Hamraoui out of her car, physically assaulting her, and targeting her legs. According to L’Equipe, the incident took place after a team meeting last Thursday. It is reported that Diallo wanted to prevent Hamraoui from vying for playing time on the team.

Hamraoui sustained injuries to her hands and legs and was promptly taken to Poissy hospital, forcing her to miss a crucial 4-0 victory against Real Madrid in the Champions League this week.

A statement from the club read: “Paris Saint-Germain acknowledges that Aminata Diallo was placed in police custody this morning by the Versailles SRPJ following an assault last Thursday evening involving the club’s players.

“Paris Saint-Germain strongly condemns the violence perpetrated. Since Thursday, Nov. 4, the club has implemented all necessary measures to ensure the health, well-being, and safety of its players.

“PSG is collaborating closely with the Versailles SRPJ to investigate the incident. The club is closely monitoring the developments of the case and will determine the appropriate course of action.”

This incident draws parallels to the infamous case of Tonya Harding in 1994, where an attacker targeted Nancy Kerrigan’s landing knee with a police baton. It was later revealed that the assailant had been hired by Harding’s ex-husband, a competitor of Kerrigan in the Olympics.

Despite the attack, Kerrigan recovered and went on to win a silver medal at the 1994 Winter Olympics.
