Milwaukee Pitcher Devin Williams Injured His Hand After Celebratory Incident

Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Devin Williams is expected to sit out the postseason due to a fractured hand sustained during the team’s celebration of winning the NL Central title.

Following their victory over the New York Mets with a score of 8-4 on Sunday, Williams, fueled by emotion and alcohol, punched a wall, resulting in the injury. Before their game against the St Louis Cardinals on Wednesday, Brewers president of baseball operations, David Stearns, stated that surgery might be necessary for the injury. However, there is a slim chance that Williams could return for the World Series if the team advances, despite being short a player.

Manager Craig Counsell remarked, “I don’t think one player can replace him, it will require a collective effort to fill that gap.” He emphasized that the postseason is a different ballgame from the regular season.

Stearns revealed that Williams attempted to throw on Tuesday despite the injury being unknown to the team. It was only after experiencing discomfort that the 27-year-old consulted the medical staff, leading to an x-ray. Williams has since expressed regret for his actions and apologized to his teammates and fans for his absence in the upcoming games.
