Major League Baseball is set to enhance its COVID-19 protocols for the upcoming 2021 playoffs.
As per The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal, all non-playing staff will need to be vaccinated against COVID-19 to access the field and other restricted areas during the postseason. Rosenthal mentioned that individuals who are currently unvaccinated can gain access to these restricted areas by getting the initial dose of the Moderna vaccine before October 4th.
There is a complication looming for a certain manager on a competitive team who remains unvaccinated as of Saturday.
“One MLB manager on a contending team remains unvaccinated, and to take part in the postseason and interact with players, MLB stipulates that managers, coaches, and staff should receive an mRNA shot by October 4 and have the second dose scheduled,” stated MLB insider Jon Heyman. “That manager has a decision to make.”
Last month, the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros were the first MLB teams to introduce a vaccine mandate for non-playing full-time staff members.
The MLB postseason is scheduled to commence on October 5.
