Conor McGregor, a prominent figure in UFC history, faced difficulty in throwing a pitch accurately during his recent appearance at the Cubs-Twins game.
During the first pitch at the game held between the Chicago Cubs and the Minnesota Twins at Wrigley Field, McGregor’s pitch veered far off course, missing the home plate by a significant margin. The ball soared high over the intended target, hitting the low wall dividing the pitch from the stands. It then bounced down towards the grass, rebounded, and caused the Cubs’ catcher to swiftly chase after it. McGregor, the 33-year-old Irishman, donned a shirt and a fine-check patterned suit as he took a moment to prepare for his pitch.
McGregor has now joined the ranks of numerous other celebrities who have faced challenges in delivering first pitches. His throw has drawn comparisons to rapper 50 Cent’s infamous pitch in 2014, often regarded as one of the worst in MLB history. While McGregor’s throw went wide like 50 Cent’s, it carried a greater force, distinguishing it from the rapper’s attempt, who later claimed a grip issue as the reason for his errant throw. Additional celebrities known for their less-than-stellar first pitches include Anthony Fauci, Carly Rae Jepsen, and John Wall.
This incident is not the first time McGregor has struggled with throwing a ball in a public setting. In 2018, he disappointed fans when he attempted to throw a football before an NFL game.
