Initial struggles plagued both the men’s and women’s US basketball teams as they faced a series of defeats in the lead-up to the Olympics. However, recent games showcase a remarkable turnaround, with the women securing a victory against Nigeria and the men’s team triumphing over Argentina and Spain.

At the start, the women faced unexpected setbacks against Australia and the WNBA All-Stars teams, marking the first instance in the past ten years where the US women’s basketball team suffered consecutive losses in exhibition matches. As top contenders for gold medals in Japan, both the men’s and women’s teams displayed a promising resurgence, offering hope to fans as the Games approach.

The US women’s team clinched a 93-62 win against Nigeria, with notable performances by A’ja Wilson (16 points) and Breanna Stewart (14 points). Both squads are set to face off once more in the women’s division opener at the Olympics.

Meanwhile, the men’s team completed their warm-up matches and gear up to compete against France next Sunday. Following defeats to Australia and Nigeria in early exhibition games, they bounced back with impressive victories over Argentina and Spain, the second-ranked team in the world.
