Boomer Esiason hinted at a theory suggesting that college football teams with players who recently tested positive for the coronavirus may have done so intentionally.
On his show on WFAN radio, Esiason expressed his surprise at the growing number of COVID-19 cases among players from prominent football programs such as Alabama, LSU, and Clemson. He specifically questioned if these teams were deliberately exposing their players to the virus.
“I have to be cautious because I’m not making accusations,” Esiason stated on Monday. “I was pondering the situation with the SEC teams in the South. Clemson, part of the ACC, is also experiencing similar cases. It seems suspicious that many of their players are testing positive. Could they be aiming for herd immunity within their teams?”
Esiason went on to say, “I have my suspicions about them.”
“I believe it’s happening,” he continued. “The timing seems too coincidental.”
There is no confirmed evidence suggesting that one can gain immunity to the virus by getting infected. Instances of individuals testing positive for COVID-19 more than once have been reported. Recently, WWE host Kayla Braxton shared that she had tested positive for the virus for the second time.
The upcoming 2020 college football season is set to kick off in late August or early September.
