Kobe Bryant, since his passing, has become a symbol of eternal remembrance. The NBA has now chosen to honor him by renaming the All-Star Game MVP award in his memory.
NBA Commissioner Adam Silver revealed this decision on Saturday, highlighting Bryant’s association with the NBA All-Star event and his embodiment of the essence of the game’s global celebration.
The NBA’s declaration came shortly after Bryant was named as a finalist for the Basketball Hall of Fame induction, less than 24 hours prior.
At the young age of 19, Bryant made his All-Star game debut in 1998, becoming the youngest player to do so. He went on to be selected for the All-Star team a remarkable 18 times, clinching the MVP title a record four times.
Tragically, on January 26, Bryant, along with eight others, lost their lives in a helicopter accident near Los Angeles. Among the victims was his 13-year-old daughter, Gianna.
Bryant’s illustrious career in the NBA is anticipated to lead to his posthumous induction into the Hall of Fame later this year.
