Following in the footsteps of the NBA, the MLB finds itself grappling with the fallout of a politically charged tweet, but the response has been notably different this time.
Rob Drake is now under scrutiny after he expressed on Twitter his intention to purchase new firearms in anticipation of a possible ‘civil war’ if President Donald Trump is impeached.
In a tweet posted on Tuesday, Drake wrote: “I will be buying an AR-15 tomorrow, because if you impeach MY PRESIDENT this way, YOU WILL HAVE ANOTHER (sic) CIVIL WAR!!! #MAGA2020”
This tweet came after an earlier post on the same night where Drake questioned the legitimacy of the ongoing impeachment hearings, criticizing them for taking place in the “basement of Capital (sic) Hill, without even a vote.” He also voiced his concerns about the state of the country.
At 50 years old, Drake has been officiating major-league games since 1999, but this year, he has not been selected to umpire postseason games.
Drake made his Twitter account private on Wednesday and subsequently deactivated it later the same day.
