In an unusual turn of events, the podium was bustling with excitement. Max Franz from Austria clinched his first World Cup super-G victory on a snowy and foggy Saturday. The race was a close one, resulting in five racers sharing the top three spots.Franz completed the race in 1 minute and 1.91 seconds, narrowly beating Switzerland’s Mauro Caviezel by just 0.33 seconds. Following them were Dominik Paris from Italy, Aleksander Aamodt Kilde, and Aksel Lund Svindal, teammates from Norway, all tied just 0.41 seconds behind.
After the race, the celebratory atmosphere was taken up a notch. Veteran racer Aksel Lund Svindal expressed delight in sharing the podium with five racers for the first time in his career. This shared victory eliminates any need for competition among them, making it a win-win situation for all.The International Ski Federation noted that the last time a World Cup race ended with three skiers tied for third place was during a downhill ski race in 1973. Italian ski racer Paris described the situation as extraordinarily exciting for everyone involved.
The ski race faced an hour’s delay as course workers cleared a significant amount of snow from the track. Franz managed to pick up more speed than his competitors on the snow-covered course. Despite a minor mistake near the top where he overshot a straight stretch, Franz deemed the race as very good overall.
