Hailing from Lincoln High School in San Diego, California, Terrell Davis found his passion for playing as a running back during his time on the junior team. Despite initially playing various positions like tight end, nose guard, guard, kicker, and fullback, his talent as a runner stood out.
Under the coaching of George Allen, who had a successful career with the Washington Redskins and was later inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2002, Davis caught the coach’s eye with his skills during scout team drills as a running back.
When the time for college recruitment arrived, Davis only received one scholarship offer from Long Beach State University. The offer came as a favor to Davis’ brother Reggie, who was already playing for the team and requested the staff to extend the scholarship to his brother. Despite beginning his college career at LBSU and showing promise, the program faced financial issues and was disbanded.
Davis then transferred to the University of Georgia where he initially faced competition from Garrison Hearst for playing time. However, he eventually rose to become the team’s primary running back, recording five touchdowns and 824 rushing yards. Although he was overlooked once again during the 1995 NFL draft, Davis was ultimately selected as the 196th pick, marking the beginning of his remarkable NFL career.
