Drew Brees, previously with the San Diego Chargers for five years, entered free agency.

The Chargers had concerns about Brees’ right shoulder surgery and had already drafted Philip Rivers. As a result, they let go of Brees, without gaining anything in return, despite his Pro Bowl status.
The Miami Dolphins took a risk but lost. They were close to signing Brees but worried about his shoulder and opted for Daunte Culpepper instead, which turned out to be a regretful decision.
This opened the door for the Saints, situated in New Orleans still recovering from Hurricane Katrina.
In March 2006, Brees joined the Saints, dedicating himself to the city’s rebuilding efforts post the disaster. His performance on the field remained exceptional.
Now in his 14th season with the Saints, Brees has claimed a Super Bowl victory and the admiration of the entire city. On a Monday night game, he surpassed Peyton Manning for the NFL’s all-time touchdown pass record, completing his 541st pass.
Brees holds the records for career completion percentage and passing yards in the NFL. In a resounding 34-7 win against the Indianapolis Colts, he achieved near perfection, completing 29 of 30 passes for 307 yards and four touchdowns, with only one incomplete pass that bothered him.
The Saints, at 11-3, have secured the NFC South Division title. While home-field advantage throughout the playoffs remains a possibility, they currently hold the No. 3 seed in the NFC.
