During Thursday’s Europa League match against Sporting Lisbon, Arsenal player Danny Welbeck sustained an injury that required him to be carried off on a stretcher. The following day, Arsenal manager Unai Emery confirmed that Welbeck had suffered a broken ankle and underwent surgery. Although the operation went well, his return to the field remains unknown at this time.

The injury occurred when Welbeck landed awkwardly during the game, as reported by Emery after Arsenal’s 1-1 draw with Wolves on Sunday. Emery described the injury as significant and stated that the club is in constant communication with Welbeck, but it is currently uncertain when he will be able to play again this season.

Welbeck is currently hospitalized and being monitored by medical staff. When asked about the severity of the injury and its impact on his career, he directed inquiries to the doctors for a more detailed explanation. Previously named in the England squad, Welbeck was slated to play in upcoming matches against the United States and Croatia, but due to his broken ankle, he will now focus on a lengthy rehabilitation process to fully recover.

Welbeck’s contract with Arsenal is set to expire in the summer of 2019. As of now, Arsenal has not announced whether they plan to offer him an extension. So far this season, Welbeck has scored five goals in 14 appearances for the team.
