Yair Rodriguez is making his comeback after an 18-month hiatus with a renewed sense of purpose. Once hailed as one of the UFC’s most promising stars, he faced challenging times during this period, including strained relationships with his bosses and injuries that forced him to reassess his career.

In May 2017, Rodriguez, then undefeated at 6-0 in the UFC, called out Frankie Edgar for a fight, even claiming he could knock him out. The much-anticipated matchup at UFC 211 resulted in a decisive TKO loss for the 26-year-old Mexican fighter.

Following his defeat, Rodriguez took a break, addressed personal matters in Mexico, and revamped his training regimen. A public dispute with the UFC almost led to his release. Rodriguez, with a record of 10-2 MMA and 6-1 UFC, will face Chan Sung Jung, who holds a record of 14-4 MMA and 3-1 UFC, in the main event of UFC Fight Night 139 at the Pepsi Center in Denver.

Rodriguez aims to prove his fighting prowess in the upcoming bout and brush off his loss to Edgar, attributing it to a medical stoppage due to swollen eyes.
