Reports suggest that TJ Dillashaw, the bantamweight champion, is gearing up to challenge Henry Cejudo, the flyweight champion, on January 26th, 2019 at UFC 233. The anticipated event is scheduled to take place at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California. The initial news about this fight was reportedly first released by Combate. This potential matchup is expected to be a 5-round bout and could likely serve as the main event of the evening. Sources indicate that this will be a pay-per-view card.

However, as of now, the official announcement of the Cejudo vs. Dillashaw fight by the UFC is still pending. The clarity regarding this potential bout raises concerns about the UFC flyweight division’s future, as there have been talks of it being abolished. The discussions about this fight between the two champions are believed to have commenced in August, after both Dillashaw and Cejudo secured their titles at UFC 227, held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

Dillashaw successfully defended his bantamweight belt against Cody Garbrandt in a rematch, securing a first-round TKO victory over the former champion. On the other hand, Cejudo managed to clinch the flyweight title in a surprising upset, winning via a split decision against the long-reigning champ, Demetrious Johnson, in the co-main event.

With Johnson’s departure from the UFC to ONE Championship, any potential rematches between him and Cejudo are off the table. This situation has paved the way for Dillashaw to consider moving down a weight class and potentially becoming the latest fighter to hold two UFC titles concurrently.
